AlphaMicron’s well-recognized reputation for precision in light-reactive technologies is rooted in our early beginnings as a collaborator with the United States military. For servicepeople, the need for equipment to protect users from momentary glare can be a matter of life and death. In these cases, a rapidly changing eyewear or visor is a crucial accessory. In battle, every second counts.
AlphaMicron’s early award-winning work developing fast reactive visors for the United States Air Force, together with our expertise in photonics and optical systems enabled us to design and manufacture a product that could meet the Army’s exacting standards, including rigorous MIL Spec and human factor testing. We are proud to have created the first-ever battle-field ready electronically controllable eyewear – now approved for the Army’s Authorized Protective Eyewear List (APEL).
Some of our products to date include:
- Ballistic lens combined with Electronic Tint-on-Demand™ technology, designed to enhance tactical capability and provide protection by enabling automatic switching when lighting conditions shift (for example, moving from the outdoor sunshine into a dark building). By switching automatically, soldiers are not required to remove their sunglasses, and their eyes remain protected at all times. Created by AlphaMicron in response to Army’s need for Transitional Combat Eyewear Protection (TCEP), this first-ever electronically controllable eyewear is now in production and can be purchased
- A new generation of ultra-fast light-reactive eyewear currently in testing; this innovation will provide active eye protection against laser and intense flash light (including IR radiation), with our signature ultrafast (faster than 0.01 sec) switching time.
